Harvard Law School Entry Requirements

Prospective applicants to Harvard Law School need at least to have a Bachelor's degree and must have taken the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). A broad or liberal arts educational background can improve a person's chances of being admitted. Although high GPA and LSAT scores are not sufficient to guarantee acceptance, good grades in college and having had courses in various disciplines that emphasize theory over specialized operational training might help. The selection process can be considered largely subjective and depends upon the current outlook and aims of HLS and of each member of the selection committee.

Best Online Law Schools

The American Bar Association has yet to accredit an online law school. Only the state of California allows graduates of online law schools to take the California Bar Exam. Provided they meet the requirements of the Committee of Bar Examiners, online law schools can register with the California State Bar. These are the currently registered schools that offer online law courses: Abraham Lincoln University School of Law, American Heritage University School of Law, California School of Law, Concord School of Law, Esquire College, MD Kirk School of Law, Newport University, Northwestern California University, Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy, Southern California University for Professional Studies, University of Honolulu, West Coast School of Law, Inc., West Haven University, and William H. Taft University. Note that a prospective law student can enroll in other distance learning law schools and still take the California bar exam after completing a set of requirements (http://distancelearn.about.com/od/onlinecourses/a/onlinelawschool.htm).

Harvard Law School Entrance Requirements

A bachelor's degree from an accredited school, good grades in college, high scores on standardized tests (LSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.), and a mostly “liberal arts” education are just the minimum requisites necessary to be considered for the J.D. program. A very well written "law school personal statement" is crucial since it gives the admission counselors some insight into an applicant's goals and personal philosophy (http://www.top-law-schools.com/law-school-admissions.html). Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the HLS Admissions Office during regular (weekday) office hours for detailed information (http://www.law.harvard.edu/prospective/jd/apply/jdfaq.html).

Harvard Law Entrance Requirements

Although good grades in college and good scores in standardized tests (LSAT, ACT, SAT, etc.) may contribute to a higher possibility of being accepted into Harvard Law School, these factors alone are usually not sufficient for acceptance into the program. The selection criteria are largely qualitative and depend significantly upon the prevailing goals and concerns of the school and of the individual members of the faculty (http://www.law.harvard.edu/prospective/jd/apply/jdfaq.html).

Best Online Law School

Concord Law School is one of the online law schools that have been registered with the California State Bar. Although not accredited by the American Bar Association, Concord can provide the quality legal education that allows its graduates to sit for the California Bar Exam--provided those prospective examinees fulfill the other State Bar requirements (http://calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_generic.jsp?cid=10115&id=3922). Details of what Concord has to offer can be found on the school website (http://www.concordlawschool.edu/why-concord.asp).
